These plastic free peg bags are made from cotton or hessian fabric and have a stainless steel hanger. They are handmade right here in NZ by a small family run business called Pouch Products that have big eco values.
Because these peg bags are handmade, each of the designs are available for a limited time only. Sharon, the lady who hand sews them, only makes a given number of peg bags in each design and once sold, there are no more! But, on the flip side, there are always new designs to choose from, so if you don't like any of the current designs, pop back in a couple of months and see what's new.
Plastic peg baskets are cheap and do the job, but over time they become brittle and break from being damaged by the sun. These little plastic fragments can fall onto the ground and continue to break into smaller and smaller pieces. When they get small enough, they become known as microplastics and are then impossible to remove.
These peg bags are made from cotton or hessian, both natural fabrics, with a stainless hanger. If any bits of cotton or hessian falls onto the ground, it'll simply compost into soil. If you ever choose to dispose of your peg bag, then the fabric can be composted at home, or if you don't have a compost bin, try one of your local community gardens. And the stainless steel hanger can be recycled. If you collect other metal scraps, you can even take them to your local 'Metal Man' and they'll give you money for them.
Although environmentally safe, these peg bags are also just lovely. They are beautifully made in a variety of designs, where you are sure to find one that you love the look of.
They're super easy to hanger onto your washing line, and slide along smoothly so you always have your pegs near you. The hole is also easily big enough for your hand to reach in and pull out pegs, allowing you to get the job done quickly.
The design and functionality of these peg bags has been really well though out.
These peg bags are handmade by a small business called Pouch Products right here in NZ. We especially love the fact that each and every bag is handmade with love and care. Pouch Products are also really eco conscious, using locally sourced materials as much as they possibly can to ensure that their carbon footprint is kept to a minimum. And they have a ‘low waste’ policy meaning that they use unique patterns when cutting their fabrics to ensure that they create as little waste as possible. Any small fabric trimmings that are left over are either composted or repurposed where they can be. Pouch products are doing a wonderful job creating beautiful and functional products always with sustainability in mind.
