Period underwear is becoming more and more popular amongst women in NZ, and with good reason. They are comfortable, reusable, sustainable, they’re saving us money and above all else they work!
Here at Reuseful, we tried a few different brands of period underwear and for us, Love Luna were the best by far.
Love Luna are a family owned business that started back in 2017. The women who started the journey towards creating this brand of period underwear, already had years of experience working in the lingerie design industry. Moving towards designing reusable period underwear was a logical next step for them.
The women at Love Luna were aware of how wasteful disposable period products were and continue to be, and they wanted to do something to give women better choices, not just for the environment, but their bodies too.
Right from the very beginning of their journey, Love Luna have had three core values that even today are at the forefront of their minds with every decision they make. These values are;

Love Luna have not only created a pair of period underwear that can washed and reused, but they’ve made sure that their designs and choices of materials stand up to the test of time. For their period underwear to truly be sustainable, they need to last a long time and withstand being worn and washed time and time again. And they’ve achieved this. They claim that each pair of period underwear can last from 9 - 12 months, but I’ve had mine for almost 2 years and they still have lots of life left in them.
Love Luna period underwear are a product created by women, for women. They have designed, trialled, redesigned and re-trialled, more times than we can even begin to imagine. Women have spent decades, centuries, millennia even, feeling uncomfortable during their periods and Love Luna are determined to put an end to that. With that in mind, Love Luna have developed a range of period underwear for every woman. Women are not all the same. We have different shaped bodies, we are different sizes, we have different period flows and we have different preferences in styles. Although, they are constantly working on adding new products to their range, Love Luna have already designed a pretty great range of period underwear and I’m pretty sure you’ll find something that works for you and your body.
Here at Reuseful, we have tried several brands of period underwear in NZ and I honestly believe that Love Luna period underwear are the best. Here’s why;
They are comfortable.
So comfortable in fact, that they feel just like a normal every day pair of underwear. You can’t even feel the extra layers and absorbent padding between your legs.
They are reliable
This brand of period underwear has been designed really well. They absorb your menstrual blood effectively, and the waterproof layer ensures that nothing seeps through. The padding is securely sewn in to cover the entire gusset area meaning that you're not going to leak out through the sides either, giving you that leak free confidence you deserve.
They are easy to wash
I personally use Love Luna period underwear and have done so for the last 2 years. In that time I have washed them countless times, and I have to say I was so surprised at how easy it is. It is quite simply as easy as 1,2,3.
1 - Rinse (with cold water)
2 - Wash (in the washing machine on a cold, gentle cycle)
3 - Dry (hang to dry in the sun if possible)
They are affordable
Here in NZ we have a big issue with period poverty. Period products are expensive. Rather than continuing this trend of overcharging women for an essential item, Love Luna wanted to start a new trend. They want to make reusable period underwear accessible to as many women as possible by keeping the costs as low as possible, without compromising on quality.
How did they do this? We often assume that the higher something is priced the better its quality, and in the majority of cases, this is correct. But Love Luna did something a little different. They kept the quality and instead decided to manufacture their underwear in just one colour and in just three styles. And so whilst the range available isn’t huge, it is enough to suit the majority of women, whilst keeping costs down.

Luna Period Undies
"These undies are great, I got the size 14-16 they don’t cut into your legs and are a nice comfy fabric. I tested these on my heaviest day - I only wear them overnight. I never felt like there was a wet patch, they are super absorbent. I prefer these to the reusable pads. Highly recommend this product I’m going to buy more".

So useful for my occasional light periods
I’m perimenopausal so have irregular and light periods, these panties are great for those days. They’re also good for sweat absorption at the gym and on long walks and avoid the old camel toe problem with tight pants of any kind.

A breath of fresh air
Amazing! I have an incredibly full on period and I am often very anxious about leakage when away from home. On my heaviest days I would use an extra long sanitary pad with the La Luna full brief undies and no leakage would occur at all. What a breath of fresh air it is to be able to feel confident - going to work, church, catching up with friends or just sitting down on my own couch. Super happy about the product!

Comfortable & confident
Love these undies so had to buy more. I use them as my everyday undies as they are comfortable & I know that I won't be embarrassed with bladder leaks for those sneezes and moments that catch us by surprise. Love Luna have designed their period underwear in a way that gives you the best possible, comfort, absorbency and leakproof confidence.
Their period underwear has a built in pad with four specially chosen layers of fabric, each with a very important role.
1. Soft cotton layer
This layer sits against your skin. It is natural and soft to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible.
2. Absorbent padding
This is the layer that absorbs your menstrual blood. It is vital that this layer performs as well as possible soaking up your blood and keeping it away from your skin so as to prevent irritation.
3. Waterproof layer
This is the key layer that gives you that leak free confidence. Whilst the previous absorbent layer holds your menstrual blood, this layer prevents it from seeping through onto your clothes, keeping it contained within the period underwear padding.
4. Sleek outer

Love Luna period underwear is available in three different styles. The classic bikini brief, the midi brief and the full brief.
Love Luna Bikini Brief
This bikini style of period underwear sits lower on your hips and stomach. It has a pretty trim around the waistband and legs and generally looks like an every day pair of underwear.
Love Luna Midi Brief
The midi brief style from Love Luna sits slightly higher on your hips and stomach than the bikini brief. It also has a slightly lower leg cut giving your bum a little bit more coverage. These are a great choice for teens, mums and for those who are active.
Love Luna Full Brief
The full brief is for women who like full coverage and comfort. It is made from super soft cotton with a high waist band.
